INSTRUCTOR GUIDELINES

Healing Touch International, Inc, (HTI) has identified Core Values that are foundational for Healing Touch Practitioners and Instructors at all levels of the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program curriculum.  These values are: integrity, heart centeredness, respect of self and others, service, community, and unconditional love.  These Core Values support and underlie the practice and teaching of Healing Touch.

The Healing Touch (HTI) curriculum is professional, solid and established.   HT must be represented and taught with clarity and competence to distinguish its unique contribution to health and healing.

The following Principles of Conduct and Standards of Education are required for all HTI instructors teaching the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program curriculum.

Principles of Conduct

Students will be respected and valued at all times regardless of race, creed, age, gender, disability and sexual orientation, honoring individual autonomy, growth and self empowerment.  The HTI instructor considers requests for special accommodations in the classroom in keeping with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.  Personal and group information is kept confidential in accordance with professional guidelines.

The HTI Certified Healing Touch instructor (CHTI) answers each question from the heart center with sensitivity, honoring the many levels of development and knowledge base of the students. The CHTI models acceptable energetic behaviors, sets the standard for practicing Healing Touch, and monitors the ethical and appropriate energetic conduct in the classroom.  The following are examples of behaviors in the classroom that may need instructor intervention:
  • Monopolizing questions or discussion
  • Inappropriate touch or use of sexual energy
  • Inappropriate inquiry, diagnosis, sharing of information, or advisement
  • Distraction from the HT curriculum with other therapies and modalities
  • Filming or recording during class sessions
The CHTI is responsible for the managing and overseeing of all activities in the classroom, working as a team with the coordinator and helpers.

Standards of Education for Teaching the
HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program

Standard I – Official Providers of the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program Curriculum

The official provider of the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program curriculum is a Certified Healing Touch Instructor (CHTI).  The instructor has completed approved official training for the courses that s/he teaches.  The CHTI is to maintain continuous membership in HTI in order to remain informed of current practices and issues that are critical to student learning and to support the professional organization.

Standard II – Behavior in the Classroom

The CHTI follows the HTI Code of Ethics / Standards of Practice and Principles of Conduct.

1. The CHTI will conduct self in a professional manner at all times while in the classroom and retreat settings when teaching in the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program.  For example, alcoholic beverages are not served during class activities nor graduation celebrations.

2. There is to be no solicitation for the instructor’s own personal gain such as:
  • Soliciting students into other programs of study
  • Using the students for research without prior consent of the student and having appropriate oversight for the study
  • Soliciting students for energetic therapy sessions
  • Filming or recording in the classroom without the student’s written permission
  • Using the mailing list of the class inappropriately
  • Promoting products that do not complement the curriculum or are not within the scope of practice of HT.

3. The CHTI does not promote alternative programs while in the role of instructor, assistant, or participant during the designated Healing Touch class time.  A designated networking table for educational activities and materials pertinent to HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program curriculum may be made available within the classroom.  Other materials must be placed outside the classroom and identified with a disclaimer as not being endorsed by HTI or the offering provider.

4. There are to be no sales of products in the classroom or outside the door where students are forced to walk past them upon entering and leaving the classroom.  There is to be not advertising or promotion of any products before, during, and after class time.  Items may be displayed in an area away from the classroom where people are not forced to be in the vicinity during lunch break, per ANCC continuing education regulations.

Standard III – Instructor Performance

1. The CHTI maintains current knowledge of the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program curriculum and has an active practice. This may be accomplished by attending the HTI annual instructor meetings, reading HTI’s Perspectives in Healing, and Instructor Memos, participating in HTI activities and taking an active role in the growth and development of HT (e.g. contributing articles, networking, mentoring, and doing research).

2. The CHTI complies with continuing education requirements:
  •
    • Submits a current continuing education bio for both nursing and massage CE’s along with an updated resume to HTI.
    • Uses official language for continuing education for both nursing and massage provided by HTI for all class advertising.
    • Complies with HTI refund policy as required by continuing education approvers.
    • Marketing of Healing Touch classes solely represents the
    • HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program curriculum and must be clearly identified and stated at the beginning of each class.
    • Instructors must be transparent in identifying this as an HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program class that leads to HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program Course Completion and HTI Healing Touch Certification.
3. The CHTI is expected to adhere to the standard HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program curriculum as developed through the American Holistic Nurses Association by Janet Mentgen and the AHNA Education Committee in timing, substance and sequence.  Only the standard HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program curriculum, meeting the terminal objectives provided by an HTI Certified Healing Touch Instructor, will be accepted as meeting the requirements for HT practitioners and instructor certification.

4. When teaching an official course, the CHTI is expected to give every student the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program Certificate of Attendance/Completion that is valid and accurately represents the contract hours assigned for either nursing or massage as written on the HTI Certificate of Completion.  If the actual hours taught are somewhat less than the hours of content on the certificate, homework must be assigned.  This can include the reading of workbooks, supplemental readings, and exploration and reading on the HTI website.  This is done on the student’s honor.

5. The certificate of Attendance/Completion will contain the HTI Logo, CE language and provider numbers.  These are also provided by HTI in brochures, advertising and class materials to be in compliance with the Continuing Education requirements for nursing and massage.  One certificate will be used for all students.

6. If continuing education contact hours are provided by a hospital or learning institution, that provider must be an approved provider of continuing education designated for that discipline.  The HTI student administration fee is still applicable per students, for the use of the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program.

7. A professional fee, covering student administration, use of the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program, and AHNA endorsement, is set by HTI.  This fee is paid for every student in class, regardless of any special financial arrangements or scholarships by the instructor or an agency.  Continuing Education CE’s for Nursing and Massage are included.
  • This fee is to be paid in a timely manner (2 weeks after the Healing Touch class).  International class funds are to be calculated and paid in the currency of the country and the scheduled time for international payment will be mutually determined by the country and HTI.  The international courses are required to give an annual report back to HTI for each calendar year.
8. A Class Report of each official HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program class is to be forwarded to HTI by the coordinator within two weeks as follows:
  • Use most current HTI forms (available on the HTI website)
  • Ensure each form is typed, legible, accurate and complete
  • Instructor’s name, date, time, location of class.
  • Class roster to include student names, credentials, all contact information (address, email, phone number), occupation, number of nurses and massage therapists attending, and nurse and massage licensure numbers for any students needing California contact hours or massage contact hours. Note: The class roster is to remain confidential and used only for Healing Touch related activities
  • Student Participant Evaluation Summary Reports including numeric totals for each rating and student comments
  • Copy of all Class Participant Evaluations
  • Copy of class brochure
  • Copy of any advertising fliers

9. Maintain copies of reports and individual student evaluations for 6 years for possible continuing education audits.

10. The Primary resources for HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program Levels 1 -5 are listed below.  HTI has developed new HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program Student Workbooks. These are the HTI approved class workbooks.

Instructors who have created their own class materials may continue to use them as long as they are in compliance with copyright infringement law and ANCC no-advertising regulations.  The information must match the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program standardized curriculum and the materials in the HTI Healing Touch Certificate Program student Workbook Levels 1-5.  The author of these individual materials assumes full responsibility and full liability in their use.

Standard IV- Instructor Courtesy

The building of the HT community requires mutual respect. The CHTI honors the foundational work and contribution of others in building a HT community and models this concept to coordinators, helpers and students.  The instructor recognizes that competition and ownership concerns can be addressed by using the following guidelines based upon the principles of abundance.

1. Work in cooperation whenever possible and honor and respect each    other.  Help each other to open new doors in the development of HT.

2. When invited to teach in an area where a program is already in place, the instructor is respectful of relationships and considerate of efforts by other instructor in that area.

3. Contribute back to the community that sponsored you by promoting on going HT programs, support groups and practice clinic in the area.  The instructor is to link new students to their community resources and network in a positive and proactive manner.

4. The CHTI submits upcoming pubic class information online at the HTI website for Class Listing on the HTI website and in HTI Publications in a timely manner.

The following statement guides the CHTI:

       Sharing expands energy and potential.

Protection and control contracts energy.

Our mission is to “Spread Healing Light Worldwide!”

Action to Uphold the Principles of Conduct and Standards of Education:
In the event that indiscretion is identified by another instructor, coordinator, or student of Healing Touch, that person should if at all possible, address their concerns with the individual instructor.  If there is still a perceived violation of the above Principles of Conduct and Standards of Education, the person should review the HTI Ethics Process and Procedure listed on the website at www.HealingTouchInternational.org/AboutUs/Ethics for a full explanation and process.
